Born in Cincinnati in 1972, Blythe was the doll every other doll wanted to be: plucky, free-spirited and well accessorised… The way the story goes, photographer Gina Garan, received an original Blythe doll as a gift from someone who felt that Blythe looked like Gina. Gina began taking her on photoshoots and practicing taking pictures using her as a model. Shortly Gina was never without her. Since that time Blythe has travelled the world with Gina, making each of them famous both in the fashion arena and in charity work as well.
This thick, 170-page book is filled with pictures of the 2005-2006 charity exhibitions that auctioned off 139 Blythe dolls, photographed by Gina Garan and Junie Moon. The last section of the book covers 104 one-off Blythe dolls designed by fashion designers, doll artists, illustrators, and musicians from around the world, visualizing Blythe as their own personal diva.
Although this book contains mostly photographs, it also has some text fragments in both English and Japanese.
